DIPLOMA COURSE IN PRACTITIONER SKILLS FOR EATING DISORDERS:
This is a comprehensive course being presented to professionals who wish to work with people experiencing eating disorders. This is a fully accredited Diploma in Practitioner Skills for Eating Disorders course, and is run one weekend a month for 8 months, March to November, and it excludes the month of August.
A fully comprehensive manual is provided with this course as well as a complete set of bound notes prior to commencement of the course.
This course is fully accredited by the National Centre for Eating Disorders (uk) and The Eating Disorder Resource Centre of Ireland.
On successful completion of this course, individuals can work with people who are experiencing food, body or weight issues.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND ?
This course is suitable for all professionals who encounter people with eating disorders either as a main or secondary symptom, or those who work with other addictive disorders. People in the healthcare profession, education services, GP’s,
Dieticians, psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists, healers, homeopaths, social workers, nurses, and anyone who wishes to be more effective in working with their clients.
This course will enhance your competence, broaden your awareness on eating disorders and provides you with the necessary skills and strategies to help individuals to resolve their food, body, and weight issues. All 8 modules must be completed by professionals who wish to gain a Diploma qualification from this course.
This course is also structured for individuals who simply wish to acquire a better understanding of eating disorders from a parental, carer, or personal point of view. This course is a personal and professional development course, as you also get to explore your own personal eating world.
COURSE STRUCTURE
The course structure is made up of 8 modules, which takes place over 8 weekends from March to November (excluding august).
Each day is structured with a seminar style programme in the morning which is primarily information giving , and a workshop style programme during the afternoon, where you get to role play and put into practice the ‘hands on skills’ reference the seminar material presented in the morning.
Each seminar is presented with a power point presentation and copies of all slides are also given to each delegate.
A fully comprehensive manual supporting the course is provided , as is copies of power point presentations, specific documentation useful in the treatment and prevention of eating disorders, questionnaires, food diaries, and a wide range of handouts and latest information which is of benefit to all.
The course is designed to develop an understanding of the reflective relationship between theory (seminar) and practice (workshop).
COURSE COST
Professionals who wish to gain a Diploma qualification must complete each of the 8 modules presented at a cost of 375 euro per module. Each module can be paid for independently and if a module is missed, payment must be made regardless.
If a professional is being sent by an organisation to complete the course, all 8 modules must be paid in full a week before course commences in march.
COURSE QUALIFICATION
The course offers a Diploma accredited to the National Centre for Eating Disorders (Uk), and the Eating Disorder Resource Centre of Ireland.
The Diploma is received on the basis of successful completion of the course plus submission of an assignment which must be submitted within six months after course completion date.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
The treatment model involves one to one interventions with the professional monitoring the clients feedback and progress. In order to facilitate change, each individual’s relationship with themselves, their body, their weight, and their food must change. The course enables this process to happen as it addresses the individuals issues on a mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual level.
The course acknowledges and utilises skills from Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Enhanced (CBT-E), Cognitive Analytical Therapies (CAT), Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Motivational Therapy (MT), and transactional analysis.
The strength in the therapy lies in knowing that the treatment for eating disorders involves using several therapeutic interventions concurrently, and interventions need to be tailored to the specific needs and symptoms of the individual.

The following is a comprehensive and detailed synopsis of the Diploma course in Practitioner
Skills for Eating Disorders
This is a fully accredited course and is presented by Suzanne
Horgan, founder of the Eating Disorder Resource Centre of Ireland.COURSE FORMAT
In addition to the theoretical content and the therapeutic interventions necessary in the
treatment of eating disorders, this course also provides practical applications, personal food awareness skills, and experiential learning, all of which take place during the workshop section of each module.
Each module takes place over one weekend a month and each day is divided into a seminar
style presentation in the morning, followed by a workshop style format in the afternoon.
The seminar style is basically the presentation of information pertaining to all aspects of eating disorders and the workshop format is where delegates make experiential and practical use of the information presented that morning and also information provided in the manual.
PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS - delegates put into practice information received and apply
through the use of role play
.PERSONAL FOOD AWARENESS SKILLS - delegates work on a one to one basis and in
groups on experiential processes which will bring to light their own concerns, issues, and
considerations pertaining to food, body, and weight.
EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING - delegates get to experience first hand the impact that the
exercise and homework has on each client.The delegate gains empathy for the client as a
result of this part of the course.
CERTIFICATION
All delegates who wish to acquire the Diploma Qualification must complete all 8 modules , and submit an assignment at the end of the course.
On successful completion of this assignment the delegate will then be awarded a ‘Diploma in Practitioner Skill for Eating Disorders’ accredited to the National Centre for Eating Disorders (uk) and the Eating Disorder Resource Centre of Ireland.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND ?
This is a comprehensive course directed toward Health Care Professionals who encounter people who are overweight or obese, and are trying to lose weight or maintain weight loss.
This course can be done as a stand alone course and the award on successful completion is ‘Certificate in Practitioner Skills for Obesity’, fully accredited to the National Centre for Eating Disorders London.
Practitioners who have already completed the Diploma Course will receive the award of ‘Advanced Diploma in Practitioner Skills for Obesity.
COURSE STRUCTURE
The Course is made up of 4 modules, each module taking place over
A weekend.
Each day is structured with a seminar style programme in the morning which is information presented in the form of power point and the afternoon programme is ‘experiential’ where practitioners put into practice ‘hands on skills’ which have been presented earlier in the day.
A fully comprehensive manual entitled ‘Essential Obesity’ supports this course and copies of power point presentations, specific handouts useful in the treatment of obesity, food diaries, questionnaires, etc will also be given to practitioners on each module.
Obesity and weight related issues are a national and indeed a global problem and fast becoming the number one reason why people seek help. There are many ‘diets’ and low fat products out there but they only target the eating behaviour not what is triggering it. Traditional diets and medical remedies have failed to provide the holy grail to weight loss, yet several people DO lose weight and DO keep it off !
If you want to learn about what works, then this is the course for you !
Treating Weight related issues involves the practitioner being a Sponsor who fosters healthy habits, a Guide who helps the individual see what is contributing to their weight issues, a Coach who motivates and helps change negative behaviours with food, body and weight, and a Teacher who helps the individual build a variety of skills which will ultimately change their relationship with food ie. Anxiety Reduction, Communication, Planning, Problem Solving, Relaxation, Stimulus Control….. Treatment also involves the Practitioner being able to listen,
Empathise, motivate, encourage, support, understand the individuals personal barriers to change and yet facilitate change !
QUALIFICATION
As previously stated this is a stand alone course and the Award is a ’Certificate in Practitioner Skills for Obesity ’ which is fully accredited by the National Centre for Eating Disorders. If you have already completed the Diploma course and you are subsequently embarking on this course then the Award is received on successful completion is ‘Advanced Diploma in Practitioner Skills for Obesity’. In order to receive your award you must complete an assignment which involves answering ten questions pertaining to the treatment of an obese individual, all info on the individual is given to you in the assignment requirement and must be submitted within 6 months from last day of course.
COURSE COST
The cost of each module is 350- euro’s and individuals must complete the 4 modules if they wish to qualify for the award. If you wish to pay for 4 modules together then the cost is 1200- euro’s for the entire course.
